Blog

Welcome to my Blog Page. These posts seek to cover the broad panoply of issues, conundrums and thoughts that occupy the professional service entrepreneur’s mind.

A combination of extracts from my guides and current musings (often provoked by recent happenings at the great companies I now advise to), my aim is to inform and motivate all those who seek to build high performing teams and successful businesses.

I also enjoy responding to specific reader questions … so please feedback and let me know where you would like my mental meanderings to wander to next.

The Five-Year Entrepreneur website launches

A very warm welcome to the Five-Year Entrepreneur Website.

The project has been some time in the making. Indeed, the idea for it came pretty quickly after stepping down from the company I had spent the previous eight years building from start-up. Immediately, albeit with the hard-earned privilege of financial autonomy, I turned to the question of ‘what next?’

Never really one for the golf course, my new career phase became a portfolio-based pursuit of multiple projects of my choosing – angel investing in great small companies, launching new innovative start-ups of my own, advising other firms how to go about building valuable professional service businesses and supporting young entrepreneurs via the Prince’s Trust. With all of this I realised that I love – and keep returning to – the topic of entrepreneurship. There is nothing more stimulating, stretching and fulfilling than being involved in that most creative of processes – taking a nascent business idea and fostering its commercial success. There is nothing more rewarding than building, and working within, a high performing team driving such companies forward.

And so, I set myself another goal of building a resource that other business leaders and entrepreneurs would find useful; essentially, the ‘Five-Year Entrepreneur’ series of guides is the ‘Guide I wish I’d had to building and selling a professional service business’ when I first set out on this path.

What you see here at the launch stage is the first five guides in what will eventually become a series of 21! Together these guides seek to provide any current, or budding, managing owner of a professional service business a huge leap-forward in the most critical of challenges … building value into your business such that you drastically increase your chances for financial autonomy in the future.

I have launched the site now for a number of reasons. Firstly, the five guides within represent the real ‘foundation’ of the series covering the topics that are absolutely essential in understanding how buyers value businesses and how you can go about planning and organising your activities to address this. Secondly, I really seek and value feedback and a dialogue with you as a member of the site now. What questions do you have? What future resources would you like to see connected with  each guide topic? What guide topic would you like me to turn to next? etc.

With this type of interaction, I can be sure I am writing future guides in the order that you want to see them – addressing all the questions and challenges you have. So, if you want to get the most benefit from the site then I strongly encourage you to contribute to this conversation – via the discussion forums, voting for the next guide or simply by just dropping me an email.

That’s all for now. Thanks again for visiting. If you have yet to do so, I recommend you take a look at ‘The Concept’ page and then sign-up and download Guide 01 (and all related resources) for free. This should give you a real sense of the tremendous value you will derive from purchasing further guides (see the Bundle offer for a truly great deal).

I look forward to having you join the site. In the interim, I wish you every business and personal success.

If you are even just thinking about setting up a professional services firm I would definitely recommend taking a look. The guides not only make compelling reading but provide practical advice on the key topics that will set your business out from the crowd.
